The external costs of aircraft noise

The European Union Against Aircraft Nuisances (UECNA) will be presenting a webinar on Thursday May 25 about the external costs of aircraft noise. To save anyone who might be interested in attending time in checking what time 18:00 is in Brussels, that’s noon in New York and 9 a.m. in Los Angeles.

Conservative theorists, economists, and Reagan-style politicians don’t want government regulation and instead claim that the market will regulate problems like aircraft noise, with those responsible for the noise paying for the costs of the adverse effects. That’s great in theory, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen that really work in practice. Usually, the company or industries responsible for the environmental problem either file for bankruptcy or somehow figure out a way to avoid paying for the consequences of their actions.

I plan on listening to this webinar and if you’re interested hope you will, too.
