I was delighted to read Tory Kinley’s article about car noise pollution regulations in which she acknowledged the hard-working efforts of Mary Tatigan and her Quiet Florida associates who have been “working hard to reduce noise pollution from airplanes and car modifications in Naples.” That the group met with the Collier County Commissioners to discuss possible solutions to reduce noise pollution was also an example of Quiet Florida’s influence.

One of the proposals to curb noise pollution was the installation of noise sensors to assess sound levels of loud cars but this proposal was not accepted by the County Commission, although such sensors have been introduced in cities in the U.S. and abroad. The article notes that the County Commission was concerned about the drivers’ attitudes toward new regulations, and I would suggest that the County Commission look into the use of these sensors elsewhere.

Wishing Mary Tatigan and her Florida Quiet group much luck ahead as they continue their efforts to reduce noise pollution, a pollutant that is harmful to our mental and physical health.
