The U.S. Military does not just impose noise from its military jets on American towns, as many of our blog posts have noted. For years, the U.S. Military has also imposed this noise on residents in Japanese cities. This article informs us that several municipalities in Japan have joined together to put a stop to the military exercises.
To stop the trainings, a Shimane Prefecture Council has been measuring the noise at a number of locations. The council has recorded levels of 70 decibels and higher. The council clearly stated that the residents continue to suffer from the noise-related stress, which we know also has adverse mental and physical health effects.
We learn in this article that the council, working with mayors of the impacted cities, plans to ask the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this spring to end the training exercises. I wish the council good luck.
