by Daniel Fink, MD, Chair, The Quiet Coalition
We were saddened to learn of the untimely death of Bryan Pollard, founder and president of Hyperacusis Research, Ltd., and a co-founder of The Quiet Coalition. Bryan and I served together on the board of the American Tinnitus Association from 2015 to 2018. His background as an engineer allowed him to analyze scientific information in a very logical way, and I learned much from him. He taught me to think carefully about things, always asking, “What’s the cause? What’s the effect?”
As a physician in academic medicine with some involvement over the years with various professional societies, I was amazed at how effectively Bryan worked with the researchers who form the membership of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology to interest them in hyperacusis. He put hyperacusis on the map, pretty much singlehandedly.
May his memory be a blessing, and may those who pick up the reins at Hyperacusis Research, Ltd. continue Bryan’s work.
