Fireworks scare dogs. Both USA Today and Wisconsin Public Radio have warnings about how fireworks stresses animals, and things you can do to try to keep your pets–especially dogs–calm.
Some communities have started using quiet fireworks, that don’t have the “BOOM” associated with them.
For people, the most important advice is to leave fireworks to the professionals. Personal use of fireworks may seem like fun but it’s not worth eye injury, hearing loss, or loss of a finger or a hand, all of which are reported on the Fourth of July every year.
Noise from a professional display is unlikely to damage your hearing unless you’re too close to the launching site, but the same can’t be said of personal fireworks use.
