Treehugger reports that in an international competition, the sound of frogs singing in a Malaysian swamp at dusk was judged to be the most beautiful sound in the world. Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or in this case the ear of the beholder, and in this case when I listened to the recording on the link I found the sound more annoying than beautiful.
But I think it’s important to recognize that sound brings beauty to life. In contradistinction, a noise annoys.
The Treehugger article did make me think about what I think the most beautiful sound in the world is. Perhaps the sound of waves at the beach, wind in the trees, or the little sounds a newborn baby makes when she sleeps.
