This tweet from MIT’s Lincoln Lab describes the development of a new type of propeller, in what mathematicians call a toroidal shape, that should be quieter than standard propellers.

Drone noise isn’t that loud but has a unique buzzing quality that many if not most people find annoying.

I hope this new technology works and is used on newer drone models. Drones may or may not eventually achieve everything their proponents predict, but even photographers’ drones disrupt weddings.

Being annoyed is stressful. Stress activates a cascade of physiological events, including activation of the autonomic nervous system, hypophyseal-pituitary-adrenal axis, and inflammation of the arterial lining. These changes in turn lead to hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and increased mortality.

A quieter world will be a better and healthier place for all.
