The Federal Communication Commission announced that it is seeking public input on coming updates to rules related to the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act. It has been over 10 years since the FCC last took action in this area. It seeks input from consumers and industry workers and experts about the extent to which the rules have been effective in “controlling and preventing loud commercials on programming provided by television broadcasters and pay TV providers.”

The CALM Act has kept commercials quieter than they used to be, but not yet quiet enough. We hope the FCC implements stricter regulations to keep commercials quieter. Comments are due on or before April 10 and may be submitted online on MB Docket No. 25-72 at the FCC website.

A quieter world will be a better and healthier world for all.
