The Quiet Coalition has been notified that No Noise Toronto will be hosting a webinar on Oct. 21 about noise cameras. For those who don’t know what a noise camera is, it is like a speed camera, but for noise. Instead of taking a picture of the license plate of a car exceeding the posted speed limit, noise cameras record the sound level of the vehicle and simultaneously take a photo of the vehicle and its license plate. In both instances, tickets are issued against the driver or owner of the vehicle. The details regarding who gets the citation will vary by jurisdiction.
Noise cameras are currently in use in several cities, including New York City. It is expected that noise cameras would be effective at catching noise vehicles with modified mufflers. But surprisingly, certain vehicles with unmodified exhausts have also been caught by noise cameras because they exceeded the legal noise limits.
Anyone interested in attending the webinar on Monday, Oct. 21 at 12 p.m. EST may register here.
