The Express, a British digital news site, reports that the city of Seville, Spain passed a new law requiring noise meters to be installed in all short-term rental apartments.
In some parts of the city’s historic center, short-term rental apartments occupied by tourists outnumber those occupied by locals, and the tourists’ noise often disturbs locals. Thanks to the new law, the property owner will have to quiet the noisy guests or face a penalty if the noise limit is exceeded. Mayor José Luis Sanz also vowed to limit the number of tourist accommodations to make the city’s historic center habitable again.
That sounds like a good idea to me. A quieter Seville will be a better and healthier city for all.
